Story & Overview
Set in San Francisco, the film follows Joe (Seth Rogen), a weary jazz band teacher, and his wife Angela (Olivia Wilde), whose marriage is strained by routine and a lack of intimacy. The couple is frequently kept awake by loud noises coming from the apartment above, which they eventually realize are the sounds of their neighbors’ uninhibited sex life.
Seeking a change—and hoping to address the noise—Angela invites their enigmatic upstairs neighbors, Piña (Penélope Cruz) and Hawk (Edward Norton), over for dinner. The evening devolves into a series of awkward revelations, emotional confrontations, and an unexpected proposal from the neighbors to join them in a more polyamorous lifestyle, forcing Joe and Angela to confront the fractured foundation of their own relationship.
